BRIEF: George W. Bush, Jeb Bush play golf at The Club Pelican Bay in NaplesNaples Daily News, Fla. — Greg Hardwig Naples Daily News, Fla.
Nov. 14--The Club Pelican Bay had a couple of special visitors Monday.
Former President George W. Bush and his brother, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, were part of a foursome that got in a quick 18 holes, along with Terry Duffy, the chairman and CEO of CME Group, which sponsors the Global Financial Leadership Conference going on at the Ritz-Carlton this week as well as the LPGA Tour's championship.
A member of Bush's staff also played, said Gene Fieger, the director of golf at The Club Pelican Bay.
"I drove around about 10 holes with him," Fieger said. "He's a very good athlete. He knows how to score."
Fieger said Bush probably shot in the low 80s.
"They played in about 2 hours and 50 minutes," Fieger said. "I think (playing quickly is) his priority as busy he is. He swings good."
Fieger said Duffy arranged it through the club president and others.
"They needed to play real early and get done real fast because he spoke at Terry's conference," Fieger said.
The Club Pelican Bay was the first facility in Naples to host the PGA Tour Champions back in 1988 when Gary Player won. The event stayed there three years.
