Jan. 11--Central Valley High's boys basketball team beat Redding Christian 41-35 Tuesday night in the final game before league play.

The Falcons trailed by one at half and after the third quarter but outscored the Lions 12-7 in the fourth period to pick up the home victory.

Luke Butler was CV's high scorer with 12 points and Valar Radie scored 11 points for CV (3-11), which opens Northern Athletic League play Friday at Yreka.

Redding Christian's Noah Vickery scored 12 points, had five rebounds and five blocks, and Austin Larson scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Redding Christian (9-4) plays against East Nicolaus on Thursday to open the Love of the Game Tournament at East Nicolaus.

Las Plumas 51, Liberty Christian 45

The Patriots lost to the upper division Thunderbirds at home. Sal Madani scored 22 points and Josiah Hutt added 11 points for Liberty Christian (2-7), which hosts Brookside Christian of Stockton at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Redding Tigers American Legion baseball tryouts

The Redding Tigers 19U American Legion baseball team will be holding tryouts on Jan. 21-22 at noon at Big League Dreams.

Players who attend any high school in the area are eligible to play American Legion baseball. Show up with a glove and cleats for tryouts.

A parent will have to be there to sign the waiver if the participant is under 18 years old. The season begins Memorial Day but the team has meetings, fundraisers and practices leading up to playing ball.

Sun Devils to hold tryouts

The Shasta County Sun Devils will hold tryouts from 2-5 p.m. Jan. 22 at Big League Dreams.

Tryouts for the summer baseball program will be for players in the eighth grade through 19U.

Coaches will focus on baseball skill fundamentals along with team responsibility, work ethic and commitment. Fees will be determined by the baseball schedule.
