Star Wars Film Rogue One to Get Prequel Series at Disney's Streaming Service; Diego Luna to Reprise RoleTVLine — Rebecca Iannucci
Disney’s forthcoming streaming service will be home to not one, but two live-action Star Wars series.
Per the official description, the still-untitled series will follow “the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One… The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”
“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
As previously reported, Disney’s streaming service — which will be called Disney+, CEO Bob Iger announced Thursday — will also feature The Mandalorian, a live-action Star Wars series that will take place somewhere between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It will center on a yet-to-be-cast “lone gunfighter” who is in “the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic.”
The Rogue One prequel series will begin production in 2019. Your thoughts on this latest Star Wars project? Drop ’em in a comment below.
