Snow Forecast This Weekend Is Kind of CrazyNewser — Newser Editors
It's going to be a brutal winter weekend for a good chunk of the nation, with heavy snow forecast from Illinois to New England. The eye-popping figure is for northern New England, which could get 40 inches of snow Saturday and Sunday, reports AccuWeather.com.
Parts of central and northern New York and Pennsylvania could see 30 inches. The forecast is less severe in more populated areas, but travel is likely to be nasty in cities such as Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, Boston, and New York.
The storm "will be a blockbuster in terms of impact and dangerous conditions," says AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. It's all part of a powerful system that has 40 million Americans under winter storm watches, reports the Washington Post.
However, the system is a complicated one that makes precise forecasts tricky. Still, when the storm finally heads offshore on Sunday, an estimated 200 million Americans will be experiencing sub-freezing temperatures, reports USA Today.
