Women's college basketball: Holy Cross tops Brown for fourth straight win

PROVIDENCE 2019--PROVIDENCE -- The Holy Cross women's basketball team kicked off a four-game road swing in style Sunday afternoon, shooting 53% percent from the floor, including 10 of 13 from behind the 3-point arc to take out non-league Ivy foe Brown, 83-71, at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Lauren Manis had a game-high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to register her 41st career double-double, and Megan Swords added 20 points and 12 boards to pace the Crusaders (4-1), who won their fourth straight game.

HC points per game leader Avery LaBarbera was held in check with nine points, as Manis and Swords took control along with Kathryn Pedi, who dropped in 18 points off the bench.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 29-12 lead in the first quarter, sparked by an opening 13-2 run thanks to six points from Swords and a Pedi 3-pointer.

HC led 47-32 at the half, buoyed by Swords' 16 points, 14 from Manis and Pedi's 12.

Brown shot just 32% and were led by Justine Gaziano's 24 points, and 11 apiece from Maddie Mullin and Ashley Ducharme.

Holy Cross will face Rhode Island at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Kingston.
