May 22-- May 22--ROCKY HILL -- Small business owner and local volunteer Richie Ruglio of Rocky Hill won the endorsement of the local Republican Party at this week's nominating convention by a vote of 20-8.

Ruglio, vice president and cofounder of Pure Coffee Brand and owner of R and R Electric, thanked the delegates and his opponent, Cromwell Town Councilwoman Samantha Slade, on a hard-fought race.

"I'm truly honored and humbled. I've lived in this district all my life. My connections to each town make this seat so special for me, and I will not let you down," he said in a prepared statement.

Ruglio grew up in Wethersfield, raised his family there, and now resides in Rocky Hill. He attended Xavier High School in Middletown, and coached high school sports in Newington. This is his first run for political office, according to a press release.

Ruglio won four of the five towns that encompass the 9th District. Newington, the largest voting bloc, unanimously supported Ruglio, as did Wethersfield, he said.

Ruglio overwhelmingly won his hometown, with all but one vote. Eliminating both candidates' hometowns, Ruglio won the delegate vote 14-1, the release said.
